Dave Hard at Work

Welcome to my “Photography for Beginners” workshop page. I started my photography career 16 years ago and have had the privilege to explore and create images all over the BC coast. I continue to push the boundaries and create new and captivating images each and every time I photograph. What makes myself unique for “Photography for Beginners” is I am able to come along side anyone’s ability or level and help them progress faster in their photographic journey.
The session Nov 6-7, 2021 has was received very well with 5/6 particpants rating the workshop as excellent.
I hope to see you at the next workshop November 2022.

photography for beginners – what will we do?
Welcome to the “Photography for Beginners” workshop right here in the Sidney / Victoria area.
The foundation of the webinar will be to understand the Exposure Triangle and how ISO, aperture, & shutter speed work together. The power point presentation includes many example showing the many variables that can be selected within the Exposure Triangle.
In addition to the exposure triangle, I will explain how to choose the best “priority” settings (aperture, manual, etc.) in your camera for various photographic situations. The histogram will also be explained and how to use it to your advantage.
During the Sunday morning “In the field” session, I will show you how all the variables in the Exposure Triangle work right from my camera. This has proven to be a very useful learning tool.
Saturday 10-11:30am PST – Online Zoom call for approx. 1.5 hours to establish the foundation of the Exposure Triangle. I have always found this approach best before venturing out into the field.
Saturday 10-11:30am PST – This session is “In the field” for approx. 1.5 hours to practice what was learned the day prior. Visual examples will be presented.
